Fresh longans have recently appeared in supermarkets and fruit shops, and in stalls along the road, in Yunyang County, Chongqing. The longan production volume in this area increased in comparison with last year because the weather conditions in the first half of this year were excellent. The weather in July and August was also hot, so the longans ripened early and entered the market early. The price is relatively low at only 4-5 yuan [0.58-0.73 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is a price decrease of 2-3 yuan [0.29-0.44 USD] per 0.5 kg in comparison with last year. The price is expected to drop even further when longans from nearby production areas enter the market in mid-September.
